airBaltic (Air Baltic Corporation AS) is the leading airline in the Baltic States and one of the fastest-growing carriers in Europe. As a hybrid airline, it leverages the advantages of both traditional and low-cost carriers. With a network of nearly 130 routes from Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Tampere, and seasonally from Gran Canaria, airBaltic connects the Baltic States with over 70 destinations in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus. Founded in 1995, airBaltic now operates one of the youngest fleets in Europe, consisting of 50 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, and employs over 2,800 people. In February 2025, airBaltic became the first European airline to offer free high-speed internet via SpaceX Starlink on its flights.
The company is mostly owned by the Latvian state, which holds a 97.97% stake, while the remaining 2.03% is held by private shareholders. In January 2025, the Lufthansa Group announced an investment in a minority stake in airBaltic, with the transaction expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025. airBaltic's commitment to excellence has been recognized by numerous prestigious awards, including being named the Best Airline in its region by Skytrax for three consecutive years. In 2023, APEX awarded the airline the Passenger Choice Award for Best In-Flight Service in Europe, and in 2024, airBaltic received the APEX Four Star Major Airline Award for its commitment to providing a high-quality travel experience. In the same year, the airline won the PROS AI Innovator Award for using AI to achieve transformative results and optimize operations. In 2025, airBaltic entered the global ranking by Airline Ratings, which recognized it as one of the 50 safest airlines in the world, including it in the list of the best airlines of 2025.
